Post match review, Villa 9 - 1 Brighton Electricity

Post match review

Southern Combination League Division 2

VILLA 9

BRIGHTON ELECTRICITY 1

With 1st team manager Simon Whitney having a fully deserved weekend away with his family, the responsibility fell to David Southon, Kev Green and Blair Hamilton to get the reaction we demanded after last weeks debacle.

Picture the scene, our first game in our new ground - we invite every man and his dog. We have the committee bought in and we have lots of the Villa family of all ages in to see us play our worst game of football in bloody years.

Today we had to get it right. We were well planned with 2 new signings in Aaron Wickings

and Sami Elanni. The warm up was geared for a fast start and we had to get last seasons disappointment out of our heads.

Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long as Josh Street poked home at the back post to give us a lead inside 10 minutes.

Our lead was doubled with a penalty taken by veteran striker Macca which then started a flurry of goals to give us a first half score of 5-0. Street x 2, Macca x 2 pens & Luke French.

We challenged the boys at the half time to keep the same levels of intensity up and to really make a statement, they did not let us down with goals from debutant Aaron Wickings, a brace from Gabe then Harley rounding off our goals.

With the score at 9-0 with a minute to go we pushed forward for double figures but in the typical Villa way, we lost possession and they snuck in to eventfully score a scruffy goal and the game ends Villa 9, Brighton Electricity 1.

A hugely improved performance and one that gives us a boost going into next weeks game at home to Upper Beeding.
