Montpelier Villa Football Club can confirm that, following a detailed internal review, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw all men’s teams from the Southern Combination Football League for the 2025/26 season. This includes our first team, U23s, and U18s.
This decision has not been taken lightly. Due to financial irregularities within the men's section during the previous season, the wider club has been left with a significant financial shortfall. While the rest of the club is committed to covering these unplanned and unmitigated costs, we are unable to sustain men's football at this level in the short term without compromising the stability of the wider club.
However, we are pleased to confirm that Montpelier Villa FC will continue to field men’s and U18s teams within the Mid-Sussex Football League for the 2025/26 season, as part of our commitment to providing playing opportunities and rebuilding sustainably.
In more positive news, we are incredibly excited to announce the introduction of four new Girls Junior Premier League (JPL) teams for the upcoming season. These teams will form a key part of our long-term vision to strengthen the club’s women’s pathway, ensuring a consistent and talented stream of players progress into our women’s section. We believe this investment will play a vital role in helping our women’s teams grow, develop, and continue to climb the women’s football pyramid in the seasons ahead.
Our priority remains the long-term health and success of Montpelier Villa FC. We are proud of our place in the footballing community and are already putting plans in place to return our men’s section to the Southern Combination Football League when the time is right.
We’d like to thank our players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, and the SCFL for their understanding and ongoing support during this transitional period.
This is a pause - not a goodbye. The journey continues.
