Mid Sussex Division One – Villa 2s 4-1 Ardingly
Villa 2s first home game of the season saw debuts handed out to midfielders Lee Middleton and Liam Humphreys as well as U-18s centre forward Charlie Maywood.
Villa started the stronger out of the 2 sides but looked vulnerable at the back and were made to pay when the tricky left winger from Ardingly punished the back four after 22 minutes and almost double Ardingly’s lead minutes later but couldn’t convert the one on one.
Dan Branch was going slightly mad as Villa decided to “shoot on sight” culminating in a bill for new balls that will make the committee shudder and the local residents of Worthing picking balls out of their gardens.
Finally Villa got their just rewards with veteran and fans favourite Trevor Wilson forgetting how to shoot but claiming the assist after eventually squaring for the Ardingly defender to put into his own net.
Wilson wasn’t done and again forgetting to shoot, managed to cross for Maywood who finished smartly to put Villa 2-1 up at the break.
The second half started with more continued frustration as Villa couldn’t convert their possession and chances into goals. Lee Middleton hit the bar for about the 300th time so it was time to call for the super sub, Luke Selby AKA “the thumb” AKA “thumbinho”.
Andrew “Hollywood balls” Hamilton sent over a searching free kick which found Selby, who’s touch and finish put Villa 3-1 up. Selby wasn’t done there getting his 2nd of the game with 15 minutes left on the clock, finishing after a good run down the line.
The game finished 4-1 and Villa 2’s look forward to their European tie next week away at Godstone.
MOTM – Lee Milddleton
