Mid Sussex Division One – AFC Varndeanians 2s 0-8 MVFC 2s

Thank God it's Christmas, I can fill a match report with Christmas puns and rubbish jokes!

Actually I'll stop there because it would turn this match report into a disservice to what was our best performance of the season. AFC Varndeanians 2s are a solid side. They normally dish us out a bit of a spanking and are always challenging for the top each season, we went into this game rightly expecting it to be a tough ask to continue our winning streak of 4 games ... especially knowing with the fixture list that a win today would see us sit top of the league at Christmas. Something that seemed unfathomable back in October with 9 points from 7 games and sitting near the relegation zone than the top.

Studsy was unavailable so was replaced with another late-00's Lewes and District Sunday League legend, with first team GK (last season) and DMC (this season) Ryan Walton. Ryan Wilson had washed off his washable tattoo to start at RB, Hairband had washed his hairband especially to start in CM and a welcome return (for us as well as the player himself I'd imagine) for Adam Kneller who slotted in at CB to babysit Trish and Tonka.

Right ... ermmm ... we were 3-0 up at HT. Everyone was playing superbly. Jordan opened the scoring with the old FIFA cheat goal when Walton pulled back for him to tap into an open net. Tommy danced past 3 players before playing in Walton who rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 and Jord followed up a saved Walton shot to make it 3 before Half Time. Riley, Will and Ryan with a combined age of 36 between them (and combined height of about 12 ft) had been having a superb half and deserve a special mention in this match report, not phased by the physicality of playing senior men's football, the future is bright with these guys coming through the youth teams.

Second half was much of the same. Walton got his 2nd and final goal of the game before being cruelly subbed by the Grinch, Dan Branch. Before that though he had time to set up Jordan once more to make it 5-0, moving Jordan onto 8 goals in 8 games for the season. The 5 subs strong bench then all combined to get in on the act and go a bit goal crazy. Jayden played in Trev who smashed it home to make it 6-0. Jayden and Selbinho combined down the left to set up Trev for his 2nd to make it 7 and Lee mis-hit a shot into the back of the net to make it 8, I say mis-hit because I assume he was aiming to hit the bar again.

MOTM - Everyone. Jaymo is a legend, the Defence were rock solid, the Midfield dominated, the Wingers caused no end of problems and the Strikers scored goals. Guess we'll have to give the MOTM award to me and Branchy. Happy Christmas to all 3 of you who bother to read these match reports. Peace and love. X
