Post match review, Ardingly 0 - 1 MVFC 2s

Post match review

Mid Sussex Division One – Ardingly 0 - 1 MVFC 2s

I didn’t write a match report last week as I was too busy sulking over a tweet announcing a fixture getting more likes and retweets than the actual match report (and I also couldn’t be bothered) so with a spare 10 minutes in my hectic schedule, I am very happy to bring to you 300(ish) words describing a victory that took MVFC 2s to 12 points from their opening 8 fixtures.

With varied results so far this season and an inability to not go 1-0 down every week, MVFC 2s tinkered with the formation and the game plan for the trip to Ardingly Away. Debuts in a 2s shirt for Jake T and Shay and the return of Studsy, Yamah and Kneller to the starting XI, with this being Knels final game before his temporary loan move to the glitz and glamour of Seaford Town. Temporary.

Villa shooting downhill and into the horizontal rain took the lead after 10 minutes after good work from Trev and Studsy down the left, culminated in panic and confusion in the box (and that was just Tommy) with the ball falling nicely to Yamah who slotted home from 8 yards for his first Villa goal.

Villa couldn’t increase the lead throughout the rest of the game, hitting the post, fluffing their lines in front of goal but defended superbly and some day, one day will be able to ease manager Dan Branch’s blood pressure. Without wishing to sound like a 1990’s football manager infected in cliches, the lads put an absolute shift in and got what they deserved, 3 points.

Whilst I’m here and within the word count, a huge thank you from the 2nd team to Simon Whitney who has recently stepped down as the first team manager. We wish you all the best in the future and look forward to still seeing you involved in the club. If Trish continues to watch balls fly over his head, there may even be a role at Centre Back for you with us.

MOTM – Adam Kneller
