Post match review, Cuckfield Town 1 - 3 MVFC 2s

Mid Sussex Division One – Cuckfield Town 1 - 3 MVFC 2s

After 2 defeats on the bounce and a list of injured players that could fill a double decker bus, MVFC 2s confidence was at a bit of a low. I unfortunately (or fortunately, if you look at the result) was the invisible man on Saturday so the below match report is based on a phone call with Senior Branch, a few spurious rumours and whatever I decide went on in my head. Just been offered a job as chief Sports Reporter at the <insert tabloid newspaper of choice here reader>.

The man, the myth, the legend Jaymo was back between the sticks now that the cricket season that never really started is over. Cheeky scamp and regular first team player Harley Damario also played his first game of the season for the 2s, as well as new centre back Joe Bartlett, in for the injured Tonka. Tommy and Lee also returned to the starting XI and Beau’s better half finally allowed him to come out and play football with his mates on a Saturday, which was nice.

MVFC 2s won a penalty (I’ve forgotten what Branchy told me here) after VAR overturned a penalty appeal in Villas favour. Jake Burton stepped up to make it 2 penalties from 2 and put Villa 1-0 up. Complete guess coming up …. We went in 1-0 at Half Time. After Cuckfield equalised, MVFC 2s battled hard to earn all three points. Jordan got his first goal of the season after (second guess coming up) Beau put him through on goal and then everyone’s favourite super sub, The Thumb, got his 4th of the season to make it 3-1 and put the game beyond doubt. The lad can score whenever and wherever he wants, morning, noon and night.

It seems as though this week, the decision making improved, sensible decisions were made in key areas and despite not being pretty at times, proved effective on another classic Mid Sussex Division One pitch. Back at home against Burgess Hill Albion next week who have 9 points from their first 4 games.

MOTM – Jordan Rudwick
