Post match review, MVFC 2s 3 - 1 Balcombe

Post match review

5th of December, 2020

Mid Sussex Division One – MVFC 2s 3 - 1 Balcombe

Football is back after a 4 week break/lockdown! The players had been keeping themselves in tip top condition throughout the break with Trish paying homage to the Forrest Gump movie (the running bit, not the getting shot in the buttocks in Vietnam bit), Branchy showing up the players, Viggers getting injured and Jord taking it very professionally by going abroad for a warm weather camp just like the pros!

The rules have changed now, so we're allowed 5 subs and to use roll on roll off, just like when you are playing at under 8's, which is ideal considering the collective average IQ of this squad. With a fantastic turnout at training, we managed to whittle down the squad to about 30 players before finally getting down to 16. The team was pretty much unchanged from the past 2 victories before lockdown but welcomed the return of LeeBar, Ryan Wilson and everyone's favourite cheeky chappy, Tony's nephew, Lionel's second cousin, Hairband from their respective injuries!

Against what looked like a different team to the one defeated back in the 2nd game of the season, Villa took the lead with Jordan bullying the defender to win the ball back before slotting home. With barely 6 minutes on the clock, the Mid Sussex Yorke and Cole combined with Jordan flicking on for Studsy, who after 300 minutes, 14 chances, 5 games, 1 torn hammy and probably a 56th birthday, got his first goal for the club! 2-0 and Villa were in dreamland ... only to see Balcombe get it back to 2-1 with just 15 minutes on the clock.

The rain came down, the subs rolled on and off and the game was tight with few chances between the two sides. Jaymo tipped one wide and Jord could've got a second before hitting straight at the keeper. Jake and Tommy were controlling the Midfield giving license for Hairband through the centre, Riley down the left and Ryan down the right to bomb on but the elusive 3rd goal just wasn't to come .... except it did, when Tommy beat two players before finding Jord who got his 5th of the season to steer past the keeper and give Villa breathing space with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

Three wins on the trot, another one bites the dust and Villa sit in 2nd (but have played more games than anyone else). Can they make it 4 wins on the bounce this Saturday against a Godstone side they previously lost 4-1 to back in September? Falmer Uni Sports Complex, 3pm kick off, come and find out.
