Mid Sussex Division One – MVFC 2s 3 - 2 Godstone
Back in September, we travelled to Godstone for the away version of this fixture and got out-played, out-scored and out-fought by the better team (losing 4-1). What transpired today was a bit radio gaga and nothing I've been a part of in my 25 years of football.
Villa named pretty much the same squad as last weeks win against Balcombe with Riley Paine in for Ryan Wilson as the only change due to the starting XI, due to Ryan having an appointment to get one of those children's washable tattoos he got for free with his copy of the Beano (apologies for the old man reference). Charlie Maywood, who last played for the 2s back in mid-September was called up to the bench along with returns for stalwarts Jayden Muligande and Duncan Valentine.
Let's try and not waste the word count on the first 85 minutes shall we? 2-0 down, playing like a team that had been Space Jammed (another old man reference) and ruining mine and Branchy's weekend.
5 minutes. A lot can happen in 5 minutes. You can make a cup of tea. You can cook a Rustlers burger in the Microwave. If you're Jason Goddard you can run a 5km. You can even have a bit of the old "Mother, how's your Father?" and still have time to get dressed. You can also turn around a 2-0 deficit to win a game 3-2 apparently!!
85th Minute - Charlie Maywood decides after half an hour of missing simpler chances to smash in a worldie from 25 yards, top corner (1-2).
87th Minute - Charlie Maywood scores another with a lovely finish from a tight angle (2-2).
90th Minute - Jake Burton after 90 minutes of getting kicked and grief, steps up and scores a penalty (3-2). Scenes.
Really proud of the boys today, never gave up and kept going right until the end. Yeah, the first 85 minutes weren't great but to win a game 3-2 after being 2-0 down after 85 minutes is proper Roy of the Rovers stuff (last old man reference of the match report).
MOTM - Jake Burton
