TD Shipley 1

Villa 1

A point was a fair result in the end after a tough battle.

TD definitely the brighter starter of the two teams, we just didn't start well at all and then we gave the home side a deserved lead after about 25 minutes when through 1v1 after a mistake at the back allowed the ball through.

We rode our luck just staying in the game but got back on level terms right on the stroke of half time, with Barden assisting Ford after one of the few times we broke the defensive line.

After a bit of a rocket at half time we came out the second half a totally different team... pressing hard, moving and keeping the ball, breaking lines and creating chances.

However we were being just as wasteful as Shipley had been first half.

As the game was drawing to a close it looked as if only one team were going to win it, but a mixture of a lack of quality in front of goal, some good goalkeeping and some woodwork kept the scores level.

A bit of a cliche but another 10 minutes and I believe we would have won it, with fitness again looking great and subs having really got into the game late on.

1-1 definitely fair on the balance of play.

4 points from 2 tough away games on tough pitches against good sides... it's not a bad start at all.

Simon Whitney, first team manager.
