Southern Combination League Division 2
VILLA 2
CHARLWOOD 1
A much improved performance saw the boys come away with a 2-1 against Charlwood at Culver Road. However, the score line could and probably should have been a lot more comfortable after Villa dominated possession & created a number of good chances in the first half. Shay Tobin, Max Martin and Mayckol Sabino on his debut all had good chances to score. Josh Street hit the bar and Josh Rondel went close before he finally opened the scoring with a curling effort into the far corner from 25 yards.
The second half became a bit more of an even affair as Charlwood were much improved and started to create chances before finally equalising in the 60th minute. Villa, though, dug deep, rallied and again had a number of good chances that they couldn’t convert which was mainly down to the Charlwood goalkeeper who made a number of good saves. Dan Barden came to the rescue though after he smashed in a shot off the post from the edge of the area following a corner. Manager Kevin Green said “I was really pleased with both the performance and the attitude of the players today. We played around with the system and it worked well. I thought some of the football we played was excellent especially in the first half. We just have to learn to be a bit more clinical”
