ABOUT US
Montpelier Villa FC were formed as a men’s team playing in the Brighton Hove & District Division 6 in 1991. The team quickly moved up the leagues and won several titles, cups and trophies along the way and now have many successful teams from u9 up to veterans - and many in-between!
We have a philosophy, style of play and blueprint at Montpelier Villa that has been developed over the years. We call our Footballing philosophy ‘The Villa Way’ and it has been developed at the four stages of youth development which then blends into the senior football teams creating a clear pathway for teams and individuals into semi-professional football.
The difference between Montpelier Villa and other grassroots academies in Sussex is that the style of play and player pathway is clearly linked to both the player and the team’s development. From an early age, we facilitate a creative environment where mastery of the football and touch and technique are the key focus of all sessions. We encourage mistakes. We like players to develop their confidence and ability by trying things out and being comfortable and confident whilst in possession of the football.
All Villa youth teams play a style of football that is influenced by how the first team plays in the Southern Combination League. The style becomes more sophisticated as the teams go through the age groups, culminating in all u15/16 teams mirroring the first team’s style before they become u18s, u23s and first team players.
Our u18s and u23 players have all had regular opportunities with the Villa first team and some have even been on trial at Queens Park Rangers.
Our girls and women’s operation is growing all the time too. We have a strong women’s team who play in the Sussex women and girls league.
