Mid Sussex Division One – Ferring 0 - 2 MVFC
A 2-0 win at Ferring saw us secure back to back wins for the first time this season. Villa started the brighter with good possession and putting pressure on the Ferring goal. After 5 minutes villa won a corner on the right hand side which was delivered in at pace by Mayckol Sabino, diverted towards goal by Max Martin and eventually smashed into the back of the net by Mike McCormick.
Villa continued to press forward having a number of efforts but we had to wait until the 29th minute for the next goal and it was a bit special! A cross into the box from the left hand side was headed up and away by the Ferring centre half and was met full on the volley by Josh Street who was 24 yards out and it riffled into the corner of the net.
The second half we were the dominant side again and created a number of good chances. Free kicks from Mayckol Sabino went close and a 1 v 1 where Josh Street shot straight at the keeper. Aaron McMillan should have won us a penalty after he was fouled well inside the penalty area but the referee managed to give a free kick despite the offence being some 4 yards inside in the box!
Manager Kevin Green said “I thought we dominated the game in terms of possession and chances on goal which was pleasing on a very difficult pitch. You can see the improvements that Ferring have made in the last couple of years and we restricted them to very little chances which was credit to our defenders. Luke French at left back was very good today, strong in defence and was a real threat going forward.
I said to the players after the game that we do still have levels to go up. We should have added to the score in the 2nd half & the players have to become a bit more ruthless. However, we were tenth in the table when I took over and now we are up-to 6th with a game in hand on some of the teams above us so we are now going in the right direction. We have another difficult away game next week vs Bosham but we are very much looking forward to the challenge.”
